Introductory Nonviolent communication training
Courses Nonviolent communication led by certified trainers
Equanimity offers two consecutive 1-day basic Nonviolent Communication training courses in English. The training days can also be followed separately.
The English NVC training will be held on our locations in Amsterdam IJburg. It requires no prior education and is open to everyone. You will receive an English hand-out with exercises and a reader on arrival.
This Introductory course Nonviolent Communication provides access to the Deepening online course for English speakers. For Dutch speakers there are more follow-up options after this introduction training. Please check our Annual Program, our Theme Days and the training Parenting in connection.
Introduction training Nonviolent communication (day 1)
On this English Nonviolent communication introductory day, you’ll be introduced to Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication model. We’ll cover the theory, but above all, we’ll work with practical exercises based on everyday examples.
You’ll gain insight into the key drivers behind your behavior and communication, and the pitfalls that can lead to conversations taking an unpleasant turn, resulting in disconnection with yourself and others.
Your trainers on this Nonviolent Communication training will be Maren Hermans and Boris Nauta.
Follow up training Nonviolent communication (day 2)
For those who have taken an introduction at Equanimity or elsewhere, there is the Follow-up Day. We dive deeper into self-compassion and different ways of listening, and we practice dialogues in role-playing exercises. We focus on how to deal with feelings of anger, frustration, shame, and guilt. Both your own and those of others.
This second introductory Nonviolent Communication training day is led by Boris Nauta, Mae Heffelaar and/or Maren Hermans. You can register via the form below.
Costs
To make our training sessions accessible to as many people as possible, we use different price levels: €100 (Limited budget), €175 (Regular), or €315 (Business) per day.
Equanimity complies with the CRKBO quality code for educational institutions in short-term vocational education. The training courses are therefore exempt from VAT.
If you register for both days at once, you will receive a 10% discount on the Follow-up Day.
Participants from organizations that are members of the Dutch Association of Performing Arts receive a 20% discount on the Business rate.

The Third Harmony: towards a new world view through nonviolence
We live in a time fraught with challenges: climate change, war, polarisation and declining trust in institutions. We often treat these problems as issues that each require their own solution. But what if they all stem from the same narrative we tell ourselves about who we are and how the world works?Read more
Psychological safety in teams
In almost every team, there are differences of opinion and insight, doubts about a decision, different perspectives, or a feeling that a different or better solution is possible. Whether or not we speak up in the workplace says a lot about a team's culture. Do we feel that our input is welcome, or does it…Read more
Nonviolence as ‘the third way’
In this article, I explore the meaning of nonviolence as “the third way”. Inspired by the work of Marshall Rosenberg, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Walter Wink, we look at nonviolence as a way to actively stand up for justice without giving up on the humanity of the other.Read more
