Giving and receiving feedback without losing the connection
Feedback training based on Nonviolent communication
Our feedback training, based on Nonviolent communication supports professionals and teams in developing skills to give and to receive feedback effectively, respectfully and constructively. The training contributes to open, honest communication and trust within teams and organisations.
Giving and receiving feedback is an essential part of collaboration and a healthy organisational culture. Yet it turns out that in the real world it is often challenging, because how do you give you honest feedback without it being perceived as criticism? And how do you ensure that a feedback session becomes a connecting and instructive moment instead of a disguised appraisal interview?
What is giving feedback based on Nonviolent communication?
Feedback based on Nonviolent vommunication focuses on communicating clearly and listening with interest, paying attention to both the person giving feedback and the recipient. The starting point is not to judge or try to change one another, but to clarify values and needs and to learn from one another. The training works with the four elements of the Nonviolent vommunication model by Dr Marshall Rosenberg:
- Describe observations: specifically and without judgement
- Recognising feelings: clarity about what is going on within yourself or with the other person
- Needs: gaining an understanding of the underlying needs or values
- Requests: mutual understanding and feasible, creative proposals
What are the benefits of the feedback training?
The training is practical and experience-based. Participants practise giving and receiving feedback in the basis of situations from their own workplace. There is space to reflect, to experiment and get to know each other better. The training helps teams and professionals to:
- giving feedback that is honest, unifying and constructive
- having difficult conversations without it leading to conflicts
- develop a healthy feedback culture within the organisation
- strengthen the cooperation and involvement
- create an organisational culture in which psychological safety is central
